What Makes Yleana’s SAT Program Unique?
It’s not just the SAT!
It’s also pattern recognition and critical thinking skills
It’s also paying attention to the specific student in front of you and meeting their needs, through 10:1 student-teacher ratios and individual-focused instruction
It’s also helping you get confident in implementing what you already know and changing what test-taking means to you
Tell me more about this approach!
Yleana been rocketing scores since 2013, and our ED and co-founder has been teaching the SAT and ACT since 2006!
IEP tutoring informs our method - our ED and co-founder started as an IEP tutor for five years, and an individually-focused approach forms the backbone of our method
We’ve had excellent, repeatable results for 10 years
Socratic teaching
Flexibility in facilitation - students lead the conversation and taking the problem apart, mirroring what will happen on the actual test
Full-length practice tests
Greater familiarity leads to greater score improvement and investment in the strategies that will buoy students through successfully
Familiarity is the best predictor of success!
We create an identical atmosphere to the conditions of the Digital SAT exam
We focus on where students are making careless errors because that is the lowest-hanging fruit
Internally developed curriculum updated for the digital SAT
Our curriculum mirrors as closely as possible the actual CollegeBoard test - our staff is constantly updating it as we learn more about the new Digital test and what students need to succeed on it
This curriculum has been ensuring huge score increases in a short period of time for three redesigns of the SAT!
On the Digital SAT, we are averaging a point-per-hour improvement of about 6 points/hour
Holistic approach to stress management
We talk about focus, including guided meditations, visualizations, and breathing exercises - to help students learn to refocus when they feel stressed
Games: keeping it fun
Construction game
Students break off into teams and answer all the SAT questions from an SAT together at their tables. For their correct answers, they receive construction materials (tape, popsicle sticks, and the ability to handicap other teams) that they use to build towers out of popsicle sticks. At the end of the round, the highest and most stable structure wins
Magic squares
Like Jeopardy but with SAT questions - can be adapted for the audience
Finding Mike’s mistakes (math)
Given answers that student Mike wrote, what mistakes did Mike make and what do you need to do differently? Both fun (competitive) and helps students both spot their own mistakes and train them to avoid common careless math errors
Beat the teacher
The entire class works together to see who can answer the question/solve the problem first - the class or the teacher? Incredibly fun and fast-paced - it literally never gets boring trying to beat the teacher
