Daily Schedule

Daily Schedule

The schedule balances academic time, breaks, and academic games to pack the most learning in the shortest amount of time.

Here’s a sample daily bootcamp schedule:

9:30 - 10:00am: Attendance/CaR Race

  • Students will begin each day with a low-stakes academic warm-up.

  • CaR Race: “CaR” stands for “call and response,” which is the backbone of the pattern recognition strategy we apply to the SAT. Because we train by improving critical thinking skills, our students work to quickly and correctly identify the concept being tested - which allows them to reframe the problem to use knowledge they already have. This both increases student agency and supports our strengths-based teaching approach.

10:00 - 11:00: Verbal (Reading & Writing)

  • The Verbal section of the SAT tests students’ reading comprehension and grammatical skills. Yleana’s curriculum helps students recognize question types and apply specific strategies based on the question type, which helps them move quickly through the test.

11:00 - 12:00pm: Math

  • Yleana’s math curriculum helps students apply what they’ve already learned in school to the idiosyncrasies of the SAT.

12:00 - 12:30: Lunch

12:30 - 1:00: SAT Game/CaR Race

  • After lunch, students will play an SAT game or CaR Race. SAT games help students practice some element of what they’ve learned - e.g. in Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, students earn points for correctly answering questions about Yleana concepts and call and responses.

1:00 - 2:00: Math

2:00 - 3:00: Verbal

3:00 - 4:00: Practice section/timing practice

  • Some time each day will be devoted to practicing the timing constraints of the test, which is one of the most challenging aspects of the digital SAT.

4:00 - 4:30: Review and goal setting

  • Analyzing your work and setting specific goals for the future are core components of the Yleana method. This helps students understand where they’ve made mistakes in the past in order to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

Students will take multiple practice tests during the bootcamp. The schedule for practice test days will look like the following:

9:30 - 10:00am: Attendance/CaR Race/focus exercises

  • Focus exercises: Studies show that mindfulness, affirmations, shutting out distractions, and lengthening/strengthening focus increases test scores significantly while helping manage test anxiety.

10:00 - 12:30pm: Practice test

12:30 - 1:00: Lunch

1:00 - 1:30: SAT Game/CaR Race

1:30 - 3:00: Verbal test return/class

  • Students will review the test they took in the morning, identifying concepts they want to focus on and working with their teacher to develop a plan for future tests.

3:00 - 4:30: Math test return/class

What is the Yleana Leadership Foundation?

  • The Yleana Leadership Foundation has been helping students’ SAT scores shoot up for the past 11 years - since 2013!

  • JHU is proud to partner with Yleana Leadership Foundation, whose test preparation and academic reputation precedes them. In fall 2023, Yleana became a recipient of the highest ranking during an instructional design review conducted by Johns Hopkins’ Center for Research and Reform in Education.
