Winifred Winston, Regional Leadership Council Member
Winifred A. Winston has worked in education providing career management services for more than 15 years in K-12 and higher education, as a high school teacher, career consultant and adjunct instructor. After working for public school districts, serving as an administrator of a special education school and going through the special education process with her daughter, Winifred quickly realized Black and underrepresented minorities lacked accurate information about dyslexia interventions and instructional strategies. Not wanting another parent to experience the challenges she faced, Winifred founded Dyslexia Advocation, Inc., a 501c3 charitable organization, to provide adults and parents of struggling readers access to quality affordable remediation and access to a network of literacy and special education subject matter experts. In addition, she is the host of the Black and Dyslexic Podcast with LeDerick Horne.
Winifred is committed to service and lends her talents to other organizations committed to impacting change in Maryland such as MorganCARES, International Dyslexia Association - Maryland, Maryland R.E.A.D.S., Decoding Dyslexia Maryland, & READY Initiative. She is a graduate of Towson University and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Winifred is originally from Brooklyn, New York and resides in Baltimore City, Maryland.
