SAT® Bootcamps
After 16 Hours In Baltimore In 2019, Scores Increased 110 Points.

We know that the SAT® exam is the college admissions piece that so many students and counselors don’t really know how to crack. Especially for schools in which students traditionally have tremendous knowledge gaps and perform below the standard, it is a fight to get students just to understand the import of the test, much less do the intensive preparation that it takes to get our kids’ scores anywhere near what we know they should be. We have been raising the scores of historically underrepresented students since 2013.
SAT Bootcamps
A bootcamp can be either an introduction to or a chance to fine-tune the approach to the SAT® exam. Bootcamps come in two types:
Daylong classes over vacation/school break: 6-10 days (or more, as applicable)
2-3 hour after school classes every day for 4 weeks (or more, as applicable)
We work with schools to position these immediately before students take an official SAT® exam.
What Does A Bootcamp Include?
Dedicated instruction on strategies and specific concepts by instructors who have been teaching the SAT® exam professionally for Yleana, directly supervised by Alyssa Bowlby (Executive Director) and Garrett Barnes (Curriculum Director)
1-3 instructors (11 students/instructor maximum)
Proctored practice tests
Specific, concept-indexed score reports
Homework (1-2 hours per night)
Printing, copies, binders, all administrative materials taken care of
What Is The Correlation Between Hours Of Prep And Score Increases?
How Long Have You Been Doing This? Where Did This Idea Come From?
Yleana has been running curriculum residencies since 2017 in Baltimore and NYC with select partner schools, in preparation for the general launch of our in-school SAT® prep programs. Curriculum residencies happen every year and are chances for us to fine-tune, retool, and remake our curriculum so that it’s better for our program the next year. We hold them in partner schools in NYC and Baltimore with students who are identical to the demographic of Yleana students, so that we know we’re giving our strategies a fair shake. They allow our curriculum to develop 2-3 times faster than it could from year to year at our summer program.
